What does net carbon negative mean exactly?

Let’s start with carbon neutral. Simply put, this means that an activity releases net zero carbon emissions into the atmosphere. The next best thing is net carbon negative! This means that an activity goes beyond achieving net zero carbon emissions to actually create an environmental benefit by removing additional carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

We are proud to say that all West Fraser panel products are net carbon negative. We lock up a huge 1.18 million tonnes of CO2e every year.  That’s the equivalent CO2 from 150,852,801,268 smartphone charges.  If a smartphone is charged every day (overkill or just too many Zoom calls?), that equates to 413,295,345 smartphones per year!
