Couple use OSB to bring the outside into their holiday home

A couple from the Midlands who recently moved permanently to the Isle of Skye to live in the holiday home they built there, have been telling The Scotsman about the wood panel materials they used in its interior.

The three-bedroom ‘Hen House’, as they named it, was built by Nick Middleton and Kate Prentice with help from Alan Dickson of Skye-based architects Rural Design. The plan was to ensure the entire building, including the interior, were as elemental as possible in order to reflect the island’s landscape.

For the interior, the couple decided to use OSB panels, which were left raw and unpainted. Nick explained, “OSB is often used as a facing board and then hidden, but because it became the finished interior, our joiner cut it beautifully.”

“It was really interesting to use a material that’s normally hidden, not just from a cost point of view, but it’s brilliant because you can screw anything into it and you don’t have to worry. It looks great too.”

The couple hope the raw OSB interior walls provide the best possible backdrop to their simple furnishings, which reflect a beachy, minimalist feel that also reflects the environment outside on the Scottish island.

Norbord’s Sterling OSB is extremely versatile, available in varieties that can be used in load-bearing, dry or humid conditions. Check out this [ulr=http://www.norbord.co.uk/products/osb/sterling-osb2]link[/url] for more on Sterling OSB.
