Caberdek beats deluge to keep Scottish project on schedule

Scottish builder, R J Carson, beat the worst of the summer’s record-breaking wet weather by choosing Norbord’s water-resistant Caberdek chipboard flooring for a new house near Balfron, Stirlingshire.
The project involved construction of a new six-bedroom timber frame house at Loaninghead Farm on the edge of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.
“We needed something that could get wet without getting damaged and would provide a working platform for us while working on the upper storey” explains R J Carson’s Managing Director, Neil Carson.
Norbord distributor, MGM Timber of Grangemouth supplied over one hundred 2400 x 600mm Caberdek flooring panels plus three Caberfix Pro kits to R J Carson, which manufactured the timber frame kit at its workshop at Kippen Station near Stirling.
MGM also supplied Norbord’s Sterling OSB which was used for wall sheathing.
“Without the Caberdek, the project would have been held up while the building was made weatherproof. As it was, the Caberdek floor allowed us to carry on without delay”, says Mr Carson.
R J Carson regularly uses Norbord’s standard Caberboard flooring, Mr Carson says he will now consider Caberdek for future schemes: “It costs more than the standard board, but the cost is reasonable, especially when you consider the other benefits, such as a clean floor once the protective film is peeled off”, he says.
Each Caberfix Pro kit contains enough to fix 50 sq m of Caberdek floor.
